The Earthy Wave Basket is handwoven from elephant grass by artisans in Bolgatanga, Ghana. This handwoven basket features an opening that is shaped into a wide-petal form during the weaving process. Bands of natural, brown, black, and orange grass run from a geometric check at the center outward to bold stripes at the edge.

As a Planter or Storage Piece

At 21" across and 11.5" tall, the scale suits a large nursery pot set inside as a cachepot. The petal opening gives large-leafed indoor plants like monstera or fiddle leaf fig room to spread naturally. It holds linens or decorative objects just as readily, and works in the living room, bedroom, or entryway.

Heritage Elephant Grass Basket

In the Bolgatanga district, color in basketry carries regional meaning. The black, brown, and orange bands on this piece draw on a palette weavers have used for generations, with dyes sourced locally and applied before the grass is worked into the form. Each color section requires the weaver to introduce a new strand at precisely the right point, keeping the pattern even across the full 21" diameter.
