Ikebana Scissors Forged from Japanese Steel

Part of the Bloomist x Asano collection, these ikebana scissors were built for traditional Japanese flower arrangement. The acute-angle blade is forged from Japanese steel in Tsubame-Sanjo. It cuts cleanly through the stem, leaving the natural fibers intact so the flower draws water. The satin-finish handle is polished smooth and slip-resistant.

Meet the Maker

Bloomist x Asano is a collaboration with a family-owned workshop that has been making Japanese garden tools since 1950. Teisuke Asano, a farmer's son, and Sakae Sasagawa, daughter of a Tokyo manufacturer, founded the workshop on the belief that well-made tools improve the experience of working with plants. Their rural and metropolitan values shaped a studio whose tools are now used by gardeners and florists worldwide. Rieko Asano, their granddaughter, continues to refine each design today.

Product Care

Wipe and clean the blade with Mini Clean Mate Rust and Sap Eraser and a soft cloth, then oil with vegetable or machine oil to prevent rust.

Impossible to contact anyone at this company

"I ordered a gift from Bloomist. They have no phone number and didn’t ship my order for over a week despite paying for express shipping. I emailed them every day with questions but never got a response. I don’t know who owns or runs bloomist but they don’t have any customer service. Don’t expect to hear back or get your order in the timing they state."

Substantial Scissors

"These are beautifully made and incredible sharp. I love them and have already used them in the garden. I was originally looking for a smaller set & didn't realize that these are really meant for cutting twigs and larger stems, versus deadheading, so I will be ordering the smaller scissors when they are back in stock. Only downside is I have pinched my hand between the handles a couple of times- need to figure out how to hold them to avoid that. But as I said they are beautiful & I'll continue to use them."

Q&A

I’m interested in ordering the smaller version of the Ikebana scissors. I saw the larger size in the recent Wall Street Journal article, sold for $32. On your website a reader referenced a smaller size meant for flower arranging and dead heading as opposed to cutting twigs and sticks. Indication was reader was awaiting them to be back in stock, but I could not find the small size listed. April 19 referenced for other out of stock Items so maybe these also? Thank you! Hello Nora, thank you for your interest! Regrettably, we don't have the smaller scissors available. We will restock the other two scissors (Japanese Floral Scissors and Japanese Ikebana Scissors) by May 1st in limited quantity, but at this time there is no plan to restock the smaller one. We hope you will consider one of the two scissors that we offer though!
