Sheldon Ceramics

Ceramicist Peter Sheldon works and lives in East Los Angeles, but his pieces — like hand-thrown gently pink terracotta clay vases and minimal stoneware pieces in a glazed charcoal shade — recall his childhood in Vermont. They carefully balance usefulness with elegance; not special-occasion-only-ware, they’re created to be used day-in, day-out, for quotidian family dinners. Sheldon bills his workspace as a “research lab” as well as a studio. The fruits of their investigations into new forms, materials, and partnerships can be found on the brand’s Instagram feed, like new pieces incorporating cobalt and white, in dots, squiggles, and more painterly shapes. You’ll also find the fruit of projects with sympatico artists like RF. Alvarez. Their bedrock pieces, though, remain their most elemental, like a hand-thrown vase in a glazed eggshell: simple, timeless, perfect.
