Artisans in Egypt use alabaster hewn from mountains in the Luxor area to hand craft these candleholders. Sculpting chunks of multi-hued alabaster into perfectly smooth candle holders is a painstaking, multi-step process. The cutting is done gradually over several days to ensure the fine crystals in the stone don’t break, and pieces are glued and wrapped in cotton at night to “rest”.

When lit from within, alabaster glows with soft, diffused, creamy light, unique to the stone. Variations in the stone make each candleholder truly one of a kind.

Note: Use with our Bloomist Beeswax Votives in addition to our Tea Light Candles by Greentree Home. These may be used to hold EcoFaux™ or Dried flowers. These do not hold water as it will seep out due to slight crazing inherent to alabaster.

ABOUT SIROCCO

10 years ago, Danish native Malou Lenskjold visited her cousins Ellen and Henrik Raven who lived in the Siwa Oasis in the Sahara Desert. Inspired by local handcrafts and materials in the region, Malou, Ellen, and Henrik launched their family-based company, Sirocco in 2010 and introduced Egyptian made products to the Danish market. Working with local artisans, Sirocco designs and creates a wide range of furniture and accessories from natural materials including salt, alabaster, copper, stone, wool, and cotton. All products are made using ancient handcrafting traditions that have been handed down from generation-to-generation.

Product Care

The base of these candleholders may become hot; we recommend adding a small layer of coarse salt or sand under the candle or use flameless LED candles. If using wax candles, be sure to keep the wick trimmed and the flame low.

Not for outdoor use, even in covered areas. Alabaster should never come in contact with water as it can ruin its smooth finish and color. Dust with soft, dry cloth. To remove surface stains and grime, carefully use a soft cloth lightly moistened with mineral spirits or acetone.
